Nominee: HASSELL

HASSELL is a multi disciplinary design based practice with currently some 670 staff internationally with studios in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin, Bunbury, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Beijing, Chongqing and Shanghai.

The Melbourne studio comprises some 120 professional people covering the disciplines of architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, urban design and planning.

Nominee: Aerostaff Australia

After completing his apprenticeship as an Airframe Engineer at British Aerospace, Manchester in 1981, Stephen then worked at several locations across Europe, including Norway, Denmark and Holland on a subcontract basis for 8 years.

Migrating to Australia in 1989, Stephen formed Aerostaff Australia Pty Ltd in 1990. Specializing in ‘Aviation and Defence Sheetmetal Manufacture’, gaining Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia approval No 1387.

In April 2004, Aerostaff gained Aerospace Standard 9100 accreditation from (LRQA). Aerostaff supply to all the main Aviation and Defence Primes in Australia and also export to North America and Asia.

Nominee: Aviation Compliance Solutions

Jackie Barnes is the Managing Director or Aviation Compliance Solutions (ACS).

Jackie was the former Quality Assurance Manager – Operations for Ansett Airlines and formed ACS following the airlines wind-up in late 2001.

ACS provides specialist consultancy services, including operational safety auditing, compliance documentation and training programs. 80% of the company’s business is now in export sales, with 30 current international clients including Air France, KLM, Japan Airlines, Air Canada, China Airlines and Qantas.

Nominee: Charlwood Design

Since its inception in 1993, Charlwood Design has made a committment to culture, a passion for the value of good design.

The winner of the VDA Major Industrial Design Award 1996-97, Charlwood Design has established itself as a provider of total product development.

Much of their work has involved working in the international environment and designing to meet international standards.

Most recently, Charlwood designed the baton for the Queens Baton Relay .

Nominee: Whispir Limited (Formerly BSITE International Limited

"Jeromy Wells is the Chief Executive Officer of Whispir Limited.

Whispir is Asia Pacific's technology leader in notification management and escalation systems.

Whispir manages communications and delivers essential SMS, email and voice messages to mobile phones, email accounts, and fixed line telephones.

Whispir is used by clients including Telstra , the ABC, Dun & Bradstreet, the Brisbane City Council, the WA Water Corporation, Leightons and the ANZ Banking Group to enhance their business continuity, incident management and crisis communications capabilities.

Whispir is currently working with its global partners IBM and Fujitsu to expand the distribution of the solution within Australia and internationally.

Nominee: PageUp

Page Up was established in 1997 by a husband and wife team Karen and Simon Cariss.

They are a fully Australian owned software development and Application Service Provider.

PageUp’s initial focus was on developing customised database applications for corporate, SME and government clients. Over the years they have built on our beginnings to create a suite of complementary products.

At PageUp, they strive to build softwae for people that didn't grow up with computers, meaning that all of our solutions are both user friendly and easily implemented.

The husband and wife team has grown from 2 to 25 (plus 6 in Sydney).

Their impressive client base includes Coles/Myer, Flight Centre, BHP Biliton, ANZ & Foster Group. They were also listed in BRW Fast 100 in 2004 & 2005.

Nominee: Chamber Music Australia

Benjamin Woodroffe is currently working as Development Manager for Chamber Music Australia (CMA) based on the Victorian College of the Arts campus at Southbank.

Prior to joining CMA he was based at the Sydney Opera House in corporate events looking after The Australian Ballet, Opera Australia and visiting artists such as Neil Diamond and KD Lang.

Chamber Music Australia was founded in 1989 by Sir Rupert Hamer and Dame Elisabeth Murdoch to promote and develop chamber music and its musicians in Australia. As a direct result of its competitions and events CMA has produced an entire generation of young ensembles now enjoying international touring and recording careers.

Nominee: Alto Hotel on Bourke

Harry Korpetutuncu is the General Manager of the Alto Hotel on Bourke, Melbourne’s newest Apartment Hotel.

Harry has a wealth of experience in the hospitality, accommodation and food sectors having worked in the industry for over 20 years. He has been actively involved in the Accommodation Industry being a Board member of the Hotel Motel Accommodation Association of Victoria since 1999, the last 2 years as the Chairman.

Alto Hotel is Melbourne’s first purpose built eco friendly Hotel providing accommodation to both the leisure & corporate markets. The policies & development have ensured healthy occupancy levels since the property opened 6 weeks ago with over 25% of future bookings coming from export markets


Nominee: TLC for Kids

Tim Conolan is the CEO and Founder of TLC for Kids.

Tim has been working with sick children and young people in need since 1991. Tim established TLC for kids in 1998 after he researched the number of sick children needing assistance V’s the number of charitable organisations offering support for sick children.

After consulting many Health Care Professionals in various hospitals, Tim identified a need for children falling through the gaps in the health care system.

TLC for kids was established in 1998 to provide immediate distractions and urgent attention to sick children and young people.

TLC also provides support to families via a program known as RAPID TLC.

Over 13,500 have directly benefited from the services TLC for Kids provides.

Nominee: ZIPT Grooming for Men

ZIPT Grooming for Men is Melbourne CBD’s day spa for fellas.

Unashamedly un-pink, the sparse environment offers men skincare, massage, waxing and steam treatments -”women have facials; men have face treatments”.

20 months down the track, ZIPT responds to questions about its clients by saying:

- no, they’re not all 24

- no, they’re not all celebrities

- no, they’re not all gay

- no, they’re not all footy players

They are sixteen to sixties, lawyers and electricians, accountants and truck drivers, students and all types of executives. Honest. They say their client demographic is “male and breathing”.

Businesses are now using ZIPT gift certificates for employee benefit uses - bonuses and incentives.


Nominee: Hindal Ventures

Natasha Mandi is the Managing Director of Hindal Ventures Pty Ltd.

Hindal Ventures provides a high level of service in corporate advisory, fund raising, acquisitions and divestments to SMEs and start-up businesses.

Natasha also brings a particular focus on the biotech sector, an area in which Hindal had previously been under-represented.

Hindal Ventures aims to provide a differentiated, client focussed advice proposition which is based on a full assessment of a client's needs and business objectives.

Before joining Hindal, Natasha ran her own successful consulting business advising SME's at various stages of the value cycle, from conception and implementation of strategies, to the commercialisation of business ideas, in particular new technologies.
